I am fascinated by the brain and how it is changed by experience- both good and bad, and how, with purposeful intervention, we can work to shape the effect of those experiences. I have worked with military and law enforcement professionals as well as collegiate athletes at all levels to strengthen their brain's ability to handle pressure, chaos, and uncertainty. I have also been approached by individuals who are struggling to effectively transition to a new place in life.
My approach with anyone who comes to see me is to address the effects of life events that may have left you feeling not quite like yourself, or as though you are “going crazy.” These feelings could come from events that you can point to as the source, or they could come “out of nowhere” when you least expect it- like while you are trying to sleep. Initially, I will work to increase your understanding of what is happening in your brain and body, and then support you as you develop strategies to increase your ability to be fully present in your life.
I will work with you to find the most effective way to address the concerns and distress you are experiencing that interferes with your relationships and overall life satisfaction. Once we have created a stable base for you to work from, we can then reach into the painful darkness to bring light and healing to the deeply painful aspects of your trauma experience. Having those effective coping strategies in place is what will give you the support you need in the healing process.
I am a Clinical Performance Psychologist, which is to say that I have an extensive background working with people of all ages as a psychologist, instructor, coach and mentor. As a clinician, I use my knowledge of optimal mental and physical functioning to develop unique and effective training that uses experiential learning to bring to life concepts and practices that can have a significant impact on the quality of life and set participants up for optimal performance.
Some people are curious about my professional training and would be interested to know that I earned my doctorate in Clinical Psychology from Biola University, a M.S. in Kinesiology, with an emphasis in Sport Psychology from Georgia Southern University, and a B.S. in Physical Education from Florida International University.
