Peer Support Series

Peer Support 101- This initial training discusses the fundamentals of peer support as it looks in the agency. The audience is encouraged to identify when they are in a support role and how to effectively communicate this to others. This training offers basic knowledge surrounding trauma for the peer support members to offer assistance and normalize the experience of the incident.

Peer Support 201- In this training the function of peer support is discussed and how it presents in the agency. Discussion is provided regarding the identification of a critical incident and how peer support team members can best show up and meet the needs of those impacted by the experience. The EPIC designed, three step approach for peer support is offered as a tool to guide the members of peer support as they Initiate, Gauge, and Withdraw following a critical incident.

Peer Support 301- This third training is designed to review some of the core elements from the first two training sessions to capture any new members, or for those who may have missed previous installments. Emphasis on application is done through an interactive vignette that builds on itself through the course of the training. Members of the audience will have the opportunity to practice the skills they have learned in real time while working as a team to interact with the instructors.This training also empowers the audience to go forward and have conversations about the spectrum of suicidal ideation as well as specific techniques for providing support.
